|“||There are three Smart Aids in Englewood, the small, somnolent beach town where I live. There are twenty-seven in Sarasota County, and one hundred and fifteen in all of Florida, spreading across the state like some untreatable rash. The reason I couldn't be fired was that my uncles owned every single one of them.||”|

Smart Aid is where Jacob works; he continuously tries to get himself fired by making giant sculptures with store items (i.e. adult diapers) and leaving before his shift is done. However, he is a nephew to the owners so he is never actually fired, no matter how much he (or his manager Shelley) wants it to happen.
There are 115 total Smart Aids in the entire state of Florida, 27 in Sarasota County, and 3 in Eaglewood where Jacob lives, all of which are owned by his uncles, Uncle Bobby and Uncle Les. It is on the verge of further expansion.
