|“||She's as close to royalty as we peculiars have. They tried for fifty years to elect her leader of the Council of Ymbrynes, but she would never give up teaching at the academy she and Miss Bunting founded. Today there's not an ymbryne worth her wings who didn't pass under Miss Avocet's tutelage at one time, myself included!||”|
Miss Avocet and Miss Bunting had a loop together in Derbyshire on Saint Swithin's Day of 1867. Her loop was not just a typical haven for peculiars, but an academy for ymbrynes.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar ChildrenEdit
When wights and hollowgasts raided her loop, she fled to Miss Peregrine's loop in an agitated state. Her colleague was said to have been abducted by the hollows and wights. While she survives the fight in the book, in the movie she is killed by Malthus.
She is an ymbryne, which gives her the power to manipulate time and turn into a bird, specifically an avocet.
She is described to be elderly. In the movie, she has the looks of being elderly and having white hair with streaks of black to represent the bird, she wears a gray skirt with a gray blouse. She also has a pair of spectacles. She was killed by a Hollowgast that Jacob presumably killed in the movie, while trying to help the Peculiar Children defend themselves.
Miss Peregrine was one of Miss Avocet's students. Their relationship is said to be very close as all Ymbryne's are overly protective and maternal and will do anything at all costs to protect those in their care. Miss Avocet traveled to Miss Peregrine's loop to warn her about the wights and hollowgasts when loop was raided.
